28 WEEKS PREGNANT

Pregnancy photo #7, September 12th, 27 weeks and 5 days.

The past month has gone so quickly. Samuel will be here before we know it!
I completed the routine 1-hour glucose tolerance test on August 18 and found out a few days later that my results were higher than normal (normal is 130, my result was 132). As a result, I had to complete the 4-hour glucose testing on August 25, which was not much fun. Luckily, the results came back great and no further testing was required.

We had our 28 week check-up on September 7. It was a wonderful way to spend my 30th birthday. We saw Dr. Jacobs (ugh!). He said that Samuel’s heartbeat sounded perfect. He didn’t tell us what the heart rate was though. My urinalysis was normal and my stomach was measured for the first time. I don’t know what that measurement was either. As you can tell, we didn’t get much information from Dr. Jacobs, even though I questioned! My weight is up 8 more pounds, for a total of 16 pounds in 7 months. I was quite panicked that I had gained 8 pounds in 4 weeks but Dr. Jacobs and the nurse didn’t seem concerned at all. They said that since I gained so little early on in my pregnancy that this is pretty common.

Dr. Jacobs also had me start doing kick counts (routine for this stage in pregnancy). For a kick count, you just record the amount of time it takes to feel your baby kick 10 times, once in the morning and once in the evening. We were instructed to call the doctor immediately if I do not feel him move 10 times in 2 hours. Samuel is so active! He has a very active time each morning and each evening. During these times, I can feel him move 10 times in less than 5 minutes! I have also done the kick counts during his non-active time. It only takes him about 30 minutes to wake up and cooperate during those periods. Jimmie laughed and said he is an overachiever!

I still feel wonderful for the most part. The daily heartburn is continuing but I have noticed that the lower back pain is significantly improved. My mood swings are getting better and I am not as weepy as I had been in past months. My appetite remains normal. I cannot believe how big my stomach is getting. I am slowly losing sight of my feet!

Celebrating my 30th birthday....
